The Fiji National University has signed an agreement with the University of Wollongong to collaborate and work together to enhance the student experience at both universities and assist in their learning.

FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lyn Karstadt, and the University of Wollongong’s Executive Dean in the Faculty of Business and Law, Colin Picker, made the agreement official, putting pen to paper after a successful discussion to work together with a mutual agreement.

The signing represents a step in the operationalisation of the relationship established by a Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed in April 2022.

The University of Wollongong is an Australian educational institution conducting world-class research and education with international and domestic students. FNU is also strongly committed to preparing students for future challenges in the workplace and conducting research with real-world impact, which will ensure that its reach extends in a practical way beyond the confines of academia.

Professor Lyn Karstadt said FNU was proud to collaborate with the University of Wollongong.

The new agreement between the two universities will see us working on student exchange programs where our university, students, and the country would benefit,” she said.

“We always work to capitalise on the opportunities around us to give our students a better learning experience and prepare them for the work field they would go into.

“FNU always ensures that we provide the best student services through excellent teaching staff, employer engagement, work experience, and international partnerships.”

FNU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Learning and Teaching, Professor Lisa Harrison said the partnership between the two universities would see us working on student exchange programs from which our university, students, and country would all benefit.

“This also includes the Study Abroad Program, where students can come to Fiji National University, and our students can go to the University of Wollongong to pursue their studies and excel in their academic careers,” Professor Harrison said.

The University of Wollongong’s Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, Professor Colin Picker, said his university was pleased to work with the Fiji National University.

“We are very excited to enter into this partnership with FNU, and we anticipate many collaborations just like the CBHTS International Conference going into the future,”

“We are hopeful that we will set up programmes for the students to come here and for our academic staff to visit and set up other agreements on the educational programmes.

“It is a tremendous opportunity for us, and we are really looking forward to working with FNU.”

FNU will continue to develop opportunities and training for enhanced student engagement and involvement across all areas of university life with the international universities and the Fiji National University Students’ Association, celebrating student success and championing a culture of mutual respect and co-creation between students and staff.
