FNU provides inclusive education and facilities

Press Release Posted On: November 11, 2022

The Fiji National University’s (FNU) Semester 1, 2023 enrolment is open to all students and individuals who want to join FNU and succeed in their chosen career with the University’s wide range of courses and programmes.

FNU is committed to providing a welcoming, encouraging, and empowering environment for students with disabilities to ensure equal access, full participation, and reasonable accommodations for their academic pursuits.

For ease and quick process of admission and registration, FNU has dedicated Enrolment Centers to serve new and continuing students at the Nasinu, Derrick, Koronivia, Ba, Natabua, Namaka and Labasa campuses.

These centres have experienced staff from different divisions to quickly assist students with enrolment, IT requirements, and selection of study options.

To ensure all Fijians are aware of the inclusive education and facilities available at FNU, institutions and schools for students with disabilities attended the Open Day to learn about the study opportunities available.

Maria Bulou, a student at Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre for Persons with Disability, was among the thousands of students who was part of FNU’s two-day Open Day event held in October.

The 19-year-old student said she looked forward to joining FNU to undertake her tertiary studies.

“I take this opportunity to thank FNU for giving us the opportunity and allowing me to come to the Open Day,” she said.

“I was able to receive academic counselling and advice in terms of my career path, as I want to become an office manager.”

The schools for students with special needs that visited FNU included the Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre for Persons with Disability, Fiji School of the Blind and the Marist Champagnat Institute.

Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre teacher, Harshika Singh, said the students were able to have their queries answered during the Open Day.

“The benefit of the Open Day was that our students were able to visit the different booths and see what they could undertake at FNU that was in line with their future goals. There were some students who were uncertain about their plans but after the Open Day, they were able to make decisions,” she said.

“Our students have shown an interest in the agriculture, tourism, and electrical programmes. We hope to see our students join FNU, and there are some of them who are already enrolled at FNU.”

Singh highlighted that she was also a current student of FNU.
