Press Release Posted On: February 25, 2021

Excited trainee teacher Prasheela Kartika Singh was part of the large group of first-year students that packed the Na Werelevu Lecture Theatre at Fiji National University’s (FNU) Natabua Campus in Lautoka yesterday to be part of the Orientation session.

Singh said attending the Orientation session was important as she was able to get first-hand information regarding the functions of the academic and support sections, acclimatise herself to the new learning environment, meet her lecturers and fellow students.

“Taking the first step on a new path in life can be challenging as it is difficult to know where to begin as everything seems so overwhelming. For me, attending the Orientation session is important as it introduces me to university life and I also get to meet other students and make friends,” she said.

Teaching has been Singh’s childhood dream and to turn her aspiration into a reality, she enrolled at FNU’s, College of Humanities and Education (CHE), to study Bachelor of Education (Primary).

According to Singh, the Orientation session was informative and interesting.

“I enjoyed the fun quiz and activities which was organised. The session provided me with an opportunity to get my queries and doubts cleared. From the presentations, I was able to gain so much valuable knowledge regarding university life.”

“It was my first chance to meet my lecturers, as I always had liaised with the admission team. I become familiar with the rules and expectations as a university student. Most importantly, I learnt my way around the campus,” she said.

While welcoming future educators, Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson assured students that the FNU family is ready to successfully provide help, advice, and support to newcomers in completing their academic journey.

“There are many people here to help you. Our academic staff are here to teach, mentor and guide you in your studies. Our student services team is here to give you advise and help as needed. Our professional services staff in the library, finance, hostel and accommodation are all here to ensure that you have the resources and the facilities to succeed in your studies. The FNUSA is here to support you with a wide range of cultural and social events. So make your time at FNU fun as well as rewarding,” highlighted Professor Wilkinson.

A similar Orientation session will be held at FNU’s Namaka Campus in Nadi and Ba Campus today.

Meanwhile, enrolment for Semester 1 has been extended to 12 March 2021. Students will not be charged any late enrollment fee.
