FNU inspired Dass to continue his education

Press Release Posted On: June 24, 2021

At 34, Fiji National University (FNU) student Adwin Dass was perfectly placed to set the right example. A father of two and a Master of Business Administration graduate, Dass was promoted to the role of the Food Safety and Supply Quality Compliance Manager at Fiji Water, where he worked for over a decade.

Dass, however, felt the need to attain a qualification in Food Technology to perform his work better. Among the opportunities available to him, Das opted to join the FNU’s College of Engineering, Science and Technology to undertake a Bachelor of Science in Food Technology and Chemistry.

“As a Food Safety Manager, I was always inspired to have a degree in Food Technology and Chemistry as I have over 13 years of experience working in the food industry and I am confident that this programme will broaden my knowledge and help me reach a greater height in my field of work,” said Dass.

Four years later, Dass who is completing his Bachelor’s programme on a part-time mode, mentioned FNU’s Bachelor of Science in Food Technology and Chemistry programme is an ideal choice for those who want to pursue a career in the food industry.

“It prepares students really well for the food industry. I have over a decade of experience in this area and I already know what skills companies are looking for from their prospective employees in this area. From my experience, this programme blends well with the expectations from the industry.”

Originally from Lautoka, Dass completed his Diploma in Industrial Laboratory Technology from FNU in 2004. He completed his Master of Business Administration in General Management from the University of Fiji in 2020.

“I was already an FNU alumnus before I rejoined for the Bachelor’s programme. I am impressed by the progress FNU has made in the past several years in terms of restructuring the programmes to align itself with the industry and introducing students to the current technology and test methods.”

“Students are given a lot more exposure during presentations in class and lab practicals to help provide them with the opportunity to grasp the skills and techniques needed in the workforce.”

“My advice to the students is to make most of the opportunities they have been given and strive for success. Hard work, time management and perseverance are the keys to success.”
