Eligible Fijians have until Sunday, February 20 to apply for a Free short course at the Fiji National University (FNU) as part of the Fijian Government’s reskilling and upskilling initiative.
As announced in the 2021 National Budget, the Government allocated $1 million to the national University to assist those who lost their employment due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This would assist eligible Fijians with re-employment and or entrepreneurial ventures.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson said the institution began with the first round of short courses earlier this month to upskill and reskill Fijians in various fields such as business and marketing, e-commerce, tourism and science and technology.
“Applications have been extended for the second round of free short courses and I encourage every eligible Fijian to apply now and diversify or add to their knowledge and expertise,” Prof Wilkinson said.
“Given the current global economic situation and labour market adjustments, it is vital that FNU continuously evaluates our learning and teaching and provides Fijians with education for employability.”
“Each of the courses has been designed in partnership with the industry to meet the evolving needs of the labour market. These courses will help meet the demands of the post-pandemic economy.”
“At FNU, we endeavor to continue developing new courses and new teaching methods that enable individuals and businesses to become adaptable, resilient and sustainable. By studying with us, you will develop the skills you need to survive and thrive in a changing world.”
Criteria
To qualify for the Free Reskilling and Upskilling placement at FNU, prospective students will have to submit a Statutory Declaration of unemployability due to COVID-19, a valid photo ID, TIN details along with their birth certificate.
