Speaking to students at the College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) orientation yesterday, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr William May said the University’s academic and support staff were eager to welcome students back to campus.

“After several months of restrictions and virtual learning due to the pandemic, the University’s academic and support staff fervently looked forward to today,” Dr May said.

“I also acknowledge our new students who have had to navigate the last two years of their secondary school life through online learning successfully to join the National University.”

“You have chosen FNU as your destination for tertiary education and your pathway leading you to your ultimate profession and career goal. The University has invested in its facilities and equipment to provide you with a better learning experience”

Dr May encouraged the students to utilise the academic and support services available to all new and continuing students to enhance their student experience.

The students also had the opportunity to meet their lecturers and peers and toured the campus to familiarise themselves with their place of study.

The FNU Students Association (FNUSA) also presented on their role and the services they offer to students.

Former Gospel High School graduate Aporosa Vuki said he had decided to undertake the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering course at CEST as it aligned with his interests and ambition.

“I am excited to start classes in this TVET (technical and vocational education and training) course and will learn today where all my lectures and workshops will be.”

“I’m grateful that 5,000 places for TVET studies at FNU is provided by the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) and have applied for a placement.”

The Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) also hosted its new and continuing students at an orientation session at its campus yesterday.

New students are encouraged to attend and complete their admission and registration process. The College and School-based Orientations will continue until April 1.
