Secondary school students and other potential students or parents interested in joining or finding out more about the study programmes offered by Fiji National University (FNU) will be able to participate in live question and answer sessions each day from today until Friday 21 August as part of the country’s first-ever Virtual Open Day.

Three live Q & A sessions are scheduled each day through the re-branded University website www.fnu.ac.fj

FNU’s Virtual Open Day is a customised online event which provides potential students with an opportunity to hear from senior academics with diverse experience in areas they are keen to pursue at tertiary-level. All enquires are answered through the live chat feature on the website or email within minutes.

Thirty-five schools from around the country registered for the live Q & A session this morning and University staff were on-hand attending to queries.

“The response from schools and the general public has been overwhelming. We are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for prospective students to clear any doubts they may have about the choice of their study programmes and career opportunities,” said FNU’s Director of Marketing and Communications Jenies Mudiliar.

“As the national University, we pride ourselves in providing an educational pathway to anyone seeking a vocational or higher education qualification. Whether you wish to join at 15 years of age through a Certificate II and climb ranks on to Diploma and Degree levels or you are the cream of the crop in Year 13, if you have an academic goal we will help you get there.”

“We understand some potential students may be facing financial challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic. The University has a flexible payment plan in place which allows students to register for the plan and pay their fees in instalments. So we have you covered there as well.”

She added that given the current world economic situation and the job market due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, it has become vital for everyone to consider their choice of institution and career path carefully.

“If you are already in the job market and are thinking of re-skilling to switch careers, this is the perfect opportunity for you to engage with us during our Open Day.”

Meanwhile, Executive Officer at FNU’s College of Humanities and Education (CHE), Khuswand Naidu, who is part of the team that is tasked to respond to queries, said he was glad to be assisting potential students with information that they would not have had access to if the University did not conduct a virtual open day.

“We have been receiving queries related to programmes offered by different colleges, enrolment application details, fees and other students academic related questions,” said Naidu.

He added that having schools such as Saint John’s College from Levuka registered for a session today indicates that such mode of the open day is advantageous, where schools from urban, rural or maritime can get access to information about life at FNU.

A total of 94 schools have registered for the live Q & A sessions for the next four days.
