The Fiji National University (FNU) is issuing a public warning regarding a deceptive online site advertisement promoting free online courses.

The online site is posing as the official Fiji Ministry of Education page on Facebook, however it is a scam. Along with the free online courses, the online site also states the offer of incentives like free laptops and scholarships for top students. It displays the FNU logo creating a false sense of legitimacy. This is a tactic often used by scammers.

This page is not affiliated with FNU in any way and condemns the deceptive use of its brand in this scam online site.

FNU offers the advice to steer clear of sites as such and to always look out for legitimate online pages or websites.

To protect yourself against such online scams;

• Do not click on any links associated with this fake online page.
• Do not provide any personal information such as your name, address, or financial details.
• Verify the legitimacy of any online learning platform before enrolling. Look for established and reputable providers with a clear track record.
• Refrain from conducting online monetary transactions through internet banking, mobile wallets (like MPaisa, MyCash), or other online methods. Verify the legitimacy of any business or outlet with the relevant authorities before making any transactions.
• Report the fake page to the platform it appears on (e.g., Facebook, Twitter).
• Forward the page URL to FNU at mo@fnu.ac.fj to assist with further investigation.
