Dominiko’s learning journey at FNU

Press Release Posted On: July 27, 2021

Torella Dominiko believes life is a continuous process of learning and that one should not let challenges hinder your success.

Dominiko is a final-year Bachelor of Commerce student at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS).

While Dominiko looks forward to the completion of her degree, she is no stranger to learning at FNU as she has graduated with a Trade Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from FNU’s College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) in 2014.

“The course was male-dominated, and it was a new experience for me, one which I will always be thankful for,” she said. “The lecturers were very knowledgeable and always ready to assist us with our queries about the units.”

“What I love about FNU is that all its courses have a compulsory attachment component that you undergo before graduating. This allows students to get a feel of the workplace environment and what they will be expected to do.”

Dominiko became a temporary lab demonstrator at CEST’s School of Mechanical Engineering from 2015-2018 before joining Bluescope in early 2019.

She then took a break to look after her mum, before deciding to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Management, Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management degree at CBHTS in Semester 2, 2019.

“I have always had an interest in management and planning, so I thought I would take up this programme to help me pursue my career in that field,” she explained.

“Management is an integral component of all companies and Human Resources have always been an interest of mine, as people are the greatest asset an organisation can have.”

“Learning the importance and various ways of constantly motivating people and reaping the rewards of a hardworking and determined team of workers is something I would like to learn about.”

“I look forward to completing my studies and joining the workforce,” she said.

Enrolment for Semester 2, 2021 is currently underway and interested students can visit the FNU website on www.fnu.ac.fj to learn more.

Prospective students can also text on 857 or email on admission@fnu.ac.fj if they face difficulties completing the process online or need further information on enrolment.
