Achal Ashwini Devi developed an interest in the field of Accounting after joining the workforce some years back, which eventually led her to enrol in the Trade Diploma in accounting programme at the Fiji National University (FNU).

Devi is a student at FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS).

“I have worked at the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) as a Legal Support Officer before rejoining FNU as a full-time student.  In my previous role, I was responsible for looking after administration tasks and assisting in the preparation of the board administration functions,” stated Devi.

Prior to joining the workforce, Devi graduated with a Trade Diploma in Office Administration from FNU.

“I enrolled in a Trade Diploma in Office Administration programme soon after completing my secondary school education. I selected this programme since I was interested in managing things, and I was often praised for my creativity and organising skills. Once I started working I got more interested in the accounting field and decided to further increase my knowledge and hence my next step was enrolling into the Trade Diploma in Accounting programme,” she mentioned.

“As a graduate of the Trade Diploma in Office Administration programme, I acquired general administration skills as well as learned the expectation of the business entities from their administrative staff.”

“Now, through the Trade Diploma in accounting programme, I have gained knowledge in the finance area of a business. This programme allows students to learn how to focus on money management, financial recording and reporting, and the best processes to save money for a business,” explained the FNU student.

Originally from Suva, Devi said she is grateful to the academic staff at FNU for providing her with the required skills and knowledge that were essentially required to step into the workforce, and she sees it as a support of her passion in the accounting field.

The highlight of Devi’s University experience has been the friends she made and the teaching staff she got to learn from.

“I am obliged to the institution for a great learning experience and facilities to make learning more exciting. I chose the Fiji National University (FNU) because of the wide array of programmes on offer,” she said.

Her advice to students is, ‘Always work hard to achieve your dreams.’

The Trade Diploma in Office Administration and Trade Diploma in accounting programmes are offered through the University’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) stream. Interested students and stakeholders can learn more by visiting https://www.fnu.ac.fj/tvet-pasifika/
