COVID-19 update on Natabua Campus operations

Posted On: March 19, 2020

To all staff and students

Following the announcement of Fiji’s first COVID-19 confirmed case this afternoon by the Prime Minister, Honourable Voreqe Bainimarama, The Fiji National University is taking the following measures to safeguard our staff and students and adhere to the Government’s guidelines:

  • Campuses within the Greater Lautoka Area – Natabua Campus, Naceva Campus, Technical College of Fiji Lautoka (Lautoka Sanatan)

Closed with effect from midnight. All staff are requested to work from home until further notice. Staff who reside within the Greater Lautoka Area may visit the campus tomorrow (20/03/2020) to retrieve their teaching materials between 9am to 5pm.

  • FNU residential facilities in the Greater Lautoka Area: Natabua Residential Hall and McGregor House.

All students must remain in the halls unless they are moving out to live at home or with friends and families within the Greater Lautoka Area.

  • All other Campuses falling outside the Greater Lautoka Area.

There will not be face to face classes tomorrow. Staff and students will be permitted to come on campus to access their study and teaching materials between 9am to 5pm.  All examinations scheduled for tomorrow (20/03/2020) will be rescheduled or alternative assessments will be arranged.

During the mid-semester break (23/03/2020 – 27/03/2020), the University will be closed to students and there will be no examinations.

However, staff will be able to work normally during this period and we will use this week to prepare for the transition to online delivery.

This situation is under constant review and we request that staff and students to frequently check their FNUPR emails, official FNU social media pages and the website for updates.

I thank you all for following clean hygiene practices and limiting travel and movement to only those that are essential to protect the most vulnerable in our society.
