The Head of the Department of Pathology and Medical Lab Science at CMNHS, Shivanjali Sharma, said the theme for this year’s lab week is “Lab is Everything,” which resonated with the day’s activities, emphasising the crucial role that laboratories play in the healthcare and research ecosystem in Fiji.

“Lab Day holds a profound significance not only for those of us who work tirelessly in the medical laboratory field but also for every individual whose life has been touched by the invaluable contributions of laboratory professionals,” Sharma said.

“Today, 70% of medical decisions depend on laboratory test results, showing the important role of clinical laboratories in today’s healthcare system.”

CMNHS hosted a function at its Pasifika campus showcasing the dedication and expertise of the Department of Pathology and Medical Lab Science members in advancing medical diagnostics and research.

“The event provided a platform for medical lab students to actively engage in various activities and demonstrations related to the medical lab programme,” Sharma said.

The celebration not only highlighted the College’s academic prowess but also emphasised its role as a leader in advancing healthcare education and research in Fiji and beyond.

Through innovative teaching methodologies and their participation in advanced research, the College continues to shape the future of medical laboratory science, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet the evolving challenges of the healthcare landscape in Fiji.
