CLTE facilitates College Workshops on The Pedagogy of Tertiary Assessments: Theory versus Practice

The Centre for Learning & Teaching Enhancement (CLTE) at FNU conducted three workshops on ‘The Pedagogy of Tertiary Assessments: Theory versus Practice’ at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (CAFF) on the 23rd of August 2019, the College of Engineering Science & Technology (CEST) on the 26th of August 2019 and the College of Business, Hospitality & Tourism Studies (CBHTS) on the 27th of August 2019. The workshop sessions were facilitated by Professor Seloamoney Palaniandy, Executive Dean of the School of Education from the University of Goroka, Papua New Guinea. Academics from all three colleges (CAFF – 33, CEST – 12 and CBHTS – 21) participated in the workshop at their respective colleges to enhance their assessment skills.

Topics covered in the workshop included:

  • Validity and Reliability concept in Testing;
  • Table of Specifications (Bloom’s Taxonomy);
  • The role of Rubrics in Assessment: Aligning Rubrics with Assessment Tools/Strategies;
  • The general misconceptions about Rubrics.

Professor Palaniandy or Dr. Selva, as he is best known among colleagues, is a respected educator in Malaysia and the region. He has taught a variety of curricula in the areas of pedagogical and management sciences in a number of universities and has published numerous research articles in reputable journals, books and conferences. His passion for travel includes school, college and university visits, knowledge sharing, institutional linkages, cultural exchange programmes, motivational talks, guest lectures and independent research.
