Marylene Rus Bower traveled for more than six hours from Levuka to Suva to complete her enrolment process into the Bachelor of Health Promotion programme at the Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences (CMNHS).

The 18-year-old was accompanied by her motivating and supportive mother, Salome Bower, who ensured her daughter smoothly transitioned into her University studies.

“Several thoughts ran through my mind while I was traveling by boat to Suva, such as what I needed to do, what the University would be like, and how to meet the right processes and procedures,” the first-year FNU student explained.

“However, things turned great. I was able to enrol without any major hassles or issues, and the staff were very friendly with their guidance. I will go back to Levuka with a big smile and excited to start a new chapter in my life.”

“I’d like to encourage everyone, never let that fear and anxiety overrule you. I have never been this confident over the years, but I had to change and prepare myself for different situations because my mom and dad would not be beside me all the time. I must stand up and make the right decision.”

Her mother added that she has given Marylene her blessings as she embarked on academic studies away from home.

“I would like to dedicate this achievement to the Almighty, who has guided and helped Marylene to enter FNU, pursue her tertiary studies, and establish a successful pathway to her career,” she said.

“I decided to accompany her because I wanted to ensure that everything was in place for my daughter, and I knew that she would be with the best lecturers and tutors. It is a proud moment for the family.”

“My message to the other parents from the outer islands is to never give up or stop your children from pursuing further studies.”

The FNU Roadshow teams will be at Shop N Save in Navua and at the Nausori Bus Stand today and tomorrow [3 February – 4 February 2023] from 9AM to 3PM. The team will assist students with their applications, entry requirements and academic assistance.

For ease in admission and registration, FNU also has dedicated Enrolment Centres to serve new and continuing students at the Koronivia, Nasinu, Derrick, Ba, Natabua, Namaka and Labasa campuses. Students can visit these campuses to complete their application process.
