1592 Students To Graduate From FNU This Month

Graduates of the Fiji National University.

A total of 1592 students will be conferred their Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees at the Fiji National University graduation ceremonies this month.

Out of this, 861 are females while 731 males.

Today’s graduation ceremony, under the FNU’s College of Humanities and Education (CHE) saw 590 students graduate today. A total of 422 graduates were females and 168 were males.

The President of Fiji, His Excellency, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere who officiated at today’s graduation ceremony, highlighted that he was delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of all graduates of FNU.

His Excellency said education remained a national priority and Government would continue to support education at all levels.

He said education was a powerful tool.

His Excellency also noted that he was pleased to note the growing number of female graduates that the FNU continued to produce which was truly an inspiration.

“Women continue to break barriers and stereotypes across the board, and I have no doubt that the number of women graduates from FNU will continue to increase,” he said.

“This is not to undermine us men, but to motivate equally and challenge us. The numbers also are indeed a motivation to school-aged girls to be part of the FNU academic.”

He told the graduates that they reached the pinnacle of their academic journey.

“As your Head of State, I am immensely proud to witness this milestone in a moment of your career progression,” he added.

“Your gown, your cap, your validated Certificates are a reflection of your mental, physical and spiritual investment towards your professional journey. Your success is largely the result of everyone that has supported your academic journey.”

His Excellency also acknowledged the first local female Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) recipient of the FNU, Dr Jasmine Hussain.

“Your accomplishment is not only a milestone for FNU, but for our nation. Your journey represents the spirit of resilience and will certainly be a beacon of inspiration for girls and women out there that are also making a name for themselves,” he said.

“Year after year, FNU’s College of Humanities and Education produces the highest number of teachers and for that we are immensely grateful.

“Your education at the FNU has equipped you to bring positive changes to your personal development, communities, families and to the nation.”

FNU Chancellor and Council Chair, Semesa Druavesi Karavaki, commended the academics, support staff, and FNU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, for their dedication to FNU’s vision.

“To the families and friends of the graduates, your unwavering support is acknowledged and celebrated,” said Mr Karavaki.

“The FNU Council remains committed to realising the University’s strategic goals, supported by the Fijian Government and stakeholders, in nurturing academic aspirations.”

Professor Nabobo-Baba said the FNU’s College of Humanities and Education stood as a cornerstone for academic excellence and societal progress.

“Rooted in a deep understanding of the transformative power of education, this esteemed institution is committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond,” said Professor Nabobo-Baba.

“Over the years, CHE has achieved many feats, and as one of the former Deans of this College, I am indeed proud to say, the College has once again created history. Today is a special day as FNU’s College of Humanities and Education celebrates its first local PhD graduate.”

Gold Medalist and Master of Education graduate, Bijita Prasad said on behalf of all the graduates, an acknowledgement was extended to all CHE academics, parents, families, and those who greatly supported the graduates along the way.
