At just 24, Josifini Lutu is breaking barriers at sea and at home. She is the first woman sailor in her family, and today, she becomes the only female graduate in the Diploma in Nautical Science (Level 5) programme under the FNU’s Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies.

Her journey has been far from easy. Determined to cross the finish line, Josifini worked tirelessly to self-fund her final unit, proving her resilience and commitment to her dreams.

Originally from Dravuwalu Village in Totoya, Lau, and the eldest of three children, she carries her family’s pride with her as she steps into the next chapter of her career.

Josifini will now continue her maritime journey as a third or fourth officer with Swire Shipping charting a course not just for herself, but for other young women who dream of being in the maritime industry.
