When her classmates graduated from FNU’s NTPC Plumber General Class III programme, Nanise Murimurivalu could not join them. Instead, the Rewan native and former CETVET Bachelor of Civil Engineering graduate was the lone woman on duty at the Water Authority of Fiji’s National Control Centre in Wailoku.
To honour her commitment, our team delivered Nanise’s certificate to her workplace — and witnessed first-hand the vital role she plays in ensuring Fijians have access to clean, safe water. From monitoring reservoirs and pumps to managing catchment areas, Nanise carries a responsibility that directly impacts thousands of lives.
“It is definitely a challenging job, especially when natural causes like droughts or flooding disrupt supply. It requires patience and attention to detail — qualities I believe women are naturally gifted with. I was ready to take on this challenge as a new learning experience, and that’s why I chose to study at FNU’s NTPC,” she shared.
