For Avinesh Vikash Deo, education is more than just a profession but a lifelong calling.
This year marks his 22 years in the teaching profession, a milestone marked by dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to shaping young minds. Of these 22 years, 12 years have been devoted to Nadogo Secondary School, a place he now considers his second home.
Deo’s journey in education began in 2002 when he enrolled at the then Fiji College of Advanced Education. He graduated in 2003 with a Diploma in Education, specialising in Accounting and Economics.
Throughout his career, Deo has witnessed the evolving challenges faced by students, particularly in rural areas. He firmly believes that institutions must play a proactive role in bridging the gap between secondary education and higher learning.
One initiative that he deeply values is the outreach programme led by FNU.
“I really appreciate the outreach programmes conducted by FNU,” Deo said.
“These initiatives help students better understand their career options and encourage them to pursue tertiary education. Without this kind of support, many students hesitate to take the next step after secondary school because they fear failure or feel uncertain about their future.”
He added that the outreach programme helps create a network of guidance and encouragement for students who might otherwise lack direction.
Committed to his own professional growth, Deo returned to further studies and completed a Bachelor of Education in Accounting and Economics at FNU in 2019.
This academic achievement not only enhanced his credentials but also reaffirmed his belief in the value of continuous learning.
He has also further his education at other universities.
