At just 19, Jovilisi Naiduki chose to follow his passion for photography and film, even when his parents dreamed of him pursuing a career in the civil service. It was a bold step, as no one in his family had ever ventured into film or television studies but Jovilisi was grateful that a friend motivated him to join FNU’s Certificate in Film and Television Programme.
The Tailevu North College old scholar recalls his shock and excitement when he discovered his internship would place him on the crew of the globally popular show Love Island. “I thought our internships at FNU would be limited to television studios, so I never imagined being part of something like Love Island.”
Jovilisi’s dedication on the sets shone through, and he impressed the production team so much that he was invited back as a full-time trainee, working on both post-production of the current season and the crew of the next.
“When I told my parents I would be earning a living doing something I love and at such a good wage, they were proud of me. Sometimes, you have to take a different path, even if others don’t understand it at first. If you believe in yourself, work hard, and pray harder, dreams do come true.”
One of his most unforgettable moments came when Megan Thee Stallion personally thanked him for supporting her music. Jovilisi now looks forward to more learning, more opportunities, and, of course, a front-row view of the drama in the upcoming season of Love Island.
