Staff Induction

Bula Vinaka and welcome to the Fiji National University!

We are delighted  to have you as a new member of our Team here at FNU.

Starting  at a new workplace can be both exciting and stressful.

We are committed to creating a positive Induction experience for all new staff at the Fiji National University.

Induction is an extremely important part of welcoming you to your role and to the university.

We want you to have the best experience when you join FNU.

Why is induction Important ?

A well organized induction will ensure that new staff are effective and efficient in their new role and will settle in well and quickly  at FNU.

It is essential that all staff new to the university or the role receive a timely induction.

This will allow them to have a better understanding of the University, its policies, procedures and culture. All staff new to the university must go through induction in the first weeks of joining FNU. This includes mandatory online and face to face induction sessions during their first week followed by  “on  the job”  induction,  learning & teaching and research induction  for teaching staff  and  the “Welcome to FNU” corporate Induction.

A good induction will address the specific needs of each new staff. As a minimum an induction programme should include: a physical tour of the office or department; introductions to colleagues,a guide to the University and department  overall structure; an explanation of how the new employee fits into the team, the team’s goals  and objectives aligned to the university strategic plan  and how the new staff  will contribute to meeting  them; introductions with key stakeholders; key work policies , performance management @FNU, Health and Safety information; and a clear outline of the staff’s key responsibilities and duties.

The staff handbook has information related to work policies and staff code of conduct. All staff must read the staff handbook and declare that they have read and understood the information provided in the handbook.

The University has an Induction Portal to guide new staff and team leaders through induction.
