Brief Biography:

Jioje Eric Hanfakaga began his culinary journey in 1988 through an ILO-initiated Chef’s apprenticeship programme. With 12 years of industry experience working in Fijian hotel resorts, 5 years in the Cook Islands, and 3 years with Air Terminal Services (ATS), he built a strong foundation in hospitality. On January 22, 2000, he began his tertiary education career with the Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) as a lecturer in the Food & Beverage department.

Over his 25-year tenure in tertiary education, he has contributed significantly to transforming FIT programmes into Fiji National University-accredited programmes in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies. His career progression includes advancing from lecturer to Head of Department in Food & Beverage, Head of School for HTS, Head of Campus at the Nadi campus, and currently serving as ADTVET-CBHTS at Fiji National University.

Beyond academia, he has represented Fiji in powerlifting at five South Pacific Games, four Oceania Powerlifting Championships, and one Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship since 2003. He has coached the Fiji Powerlifting Team to two South Pacific Games and currently trains to coach the Fiji Paralympic team.
