Brief Biography:

Ms Karalaini Tubuna is originally from Balevuto, Naloto, Ba and has maternal links to Serua Island. She had attended a lot of primary and secondary schools in Fiji because she had to be placed with her aunts and uncles who were teachers. That is where she developed the interest to becoming a teacher. Her mother was a nurse however, this did not sway her into that profession.
Her dad was a successful sugar cane farmer in the 1970s; her early years in the cane farms made a lot of impact in her life. This shaped her understanding of the Indian community, their language and culture.

After studying at the FIT, Ba, she had worked briefly at the Post and Telecommunication in Lautoka before enrolling for a Teacher Training program at Nasinu. Her teaching career started in January, 1987 at FIT Ba. She completed the Bachelor of Arts, Post Graduate Diploma – Development studies, Post Graduate Diploma – Management & Public Administration, Masters in Management and Public Administration from USP.

Her close associations with industries has provided a strong platform for course development and industry alignment of the current CBHTS courses.

Ms Karalaini Tubuna’s personal aspirations are grounded in understanding the different ways students learn and interact with each other. Understanding student behaviors, charting solutions and the best way forward for them.

With 38 years of experience in academia, she has dedicated her career to shaping the future of education and workforce development. She has served as a Lecturer in the School of Management at both Fiji National University and the former Fiji Institute of Technology, specializing in curriculum, course development and teaching.

She is passionate about making positive and lasting impacts on students’ lives despite the different students’ background and challenges that students’ encounter in life.

Her expertise and commitment to education have contributed significantly to curriculum enhancements and workforce readiness in Fiji and the Pacific region.
