Brief Biography:
My name is Avishay Kumar, a dedicated pastry tutor at Fiji National University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies. I am passionate about nurturing the next generation of culinary professionals, specializing in baking and pastry arts. My journey in the hospitality industry began in 2018, earning qualifications from the Technical College of Fiji and Fiji National University, progressing from Certificates I and II to a Trade Diploma in Baking and Pastry. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education, specializing in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Over the years, I’ve built valuable hands-on experience working as a baker, pizza chef, and pastry chef with establishments like Shop and Save and Indian Thali. Alongside these roles, I successfully managed a home-based cake business, sharpening my entrepreneurial skills.
Since 2023, I have been actively conducting theory and practical classes, designing assessment materials, and supporting students’ academic growth. I also contribute to university events and external catering functions. Known for my teamwork, creativity, and strong communication skills, I am committed to inspiring students to excel in the dynamic world of baking and pastry arts.
