Unit Code: AMA464

Unit Name: Automatic Flight Control Systems

Description: This module is to familiarise the student with automatic flight control systems applicable to fixed-wing aircraft. This will provide the student with the underpinning knowledge necessary to carry out maintenance, servicing, testing and fault finding on automatic flight control systems on fixed-wing aircraft.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to; a) define the terms related to flight control systems and describe the fundamentals of automatic control. b) describe the various servo actuators applicable to fixed-wing aircraft and their interface with the automatic flight control system. c) describe error sensing, signal processing, engage interlock circuits and outer loop control elements. d) describe the modes of operation for the roll, pitch and yaw channels of the automatic flight control system. e) describe the operation of turn coordination, automatic trim and yaw damper systems. f) describe fly by wire control systems.
