Unit Name: Flight Controls and Flight Director Systems

Description: This module is to familiarise the student with automatic flight control and flight director systems applicable to fixed-wing aircraft. This will provide the student with the underpinning knowledge necessary to carry out maintenance, servicing, testing and fault finding on flight control and flight director systems on fixed-wing aircraft.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to; a) describe the principles of aerodynamics and the theory of flight. b) explain the principles relating to conditions of flight. c) describe aircraft stability. d) describe the purpose, operation and effect of control systems and high lift devices. e) describe the theory of high-speed flight. f) describe the layout, components and interpret the indications associated with flight direction systems applicable to fixed-wing aircraft. g) describe the modes of operation associated with flight direction systems applicable to fixed-wing aircraft. h) describe the layout, operation and interpret the indications associated with electronic flight instrument systems (EFIS).
