The Department of Quality Standards (DQS) strives to see The Fiji National University as the premier national university for higher education, technical and vocational education and training in Fiji and the South Pacific. The DQS supports the university in achieving its mission by providing an independent and objective quality assurance service designed to add value and improve all academic operations.

It strives to see that the Fiji National University is the premier University for higher education, technical and vocational education and training in Fiji and the South Pacific. The Department of Quality Standards supports the University to achieve its mission by providing an independent and objective assurance service designed to add value and improve all operations.

It works towards ensuring that the product and services offered at the University meets requirements of FNU’s, national and international qualifications standards and relevant quality frameworks.

To ensure that the University provides quality services to its customers and interested parties, the department implements the following quality trilogy:

  • Quality Planning:

Identifying FNU’s, national and international quality assurance requirements; identifying gaps in the products and services offered internally and externally to ensure products and services meet the needs and expectations of FNU ,students and stakeholders; developing systems and procedures to achieve high standard of customer needs, national and international requirements wherever applicable; and ensuring development of operation plans for all relevant departments and sections of the university.

  • Quality Control:

Assessing actual quality performances of colleges and support services of the University through regular audits. Key audit scope may include but not limited to scheduled and unscheduled audits on Teaching and Learning, University Support Services on ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS) criterion, 5S and any other relevant national and international laws and regulations.

  • Quality Improvement:

Continually enhancing the effectiveness of the quality management system through the use of the quality policy, quality objectives, audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive actions(online customer feedback system) and university management review. Acknowledging FNU’s staff effort towards improvements and innovations by culminating the FNU-Internal Quality Circle Convention (IQCC). The Customer Feedback system also enables the University community members as well as the general public to become actively involved in improving the services provided at the University.
