Towards a Career in the Field of Library and Information Systems
There is an increasing worldwide demand for Library and Information System (LIS) professionals who are able to tap into emerging technologies to connect their customers with the rapidly growing bodies of information they seek. Career options in the information field are wide open to Library & Information System learners in the field of librarianship as well as information system settings, for which there is a strong demand in the educational sector.
Fiji National University is offering studies that will produce qualified librarians and information system professionals who have adequate theoretical knowledge and practical skills in Library and ICT applications. FNU is pleased to announce its first ever LIS programme which emphasizes bibliographic control with applied knowledge of library automation, digital libraries and open access; premium-level technological productivity and user acceptability etc. The programme will not only provide skilled professionals with well-defined options to match their career requirements, but will also provide employers with a clear picture of industry specific attributes of the graduates.
About Us
The Department of Library Services in collaboration with the Department of Office Administration and Library and Information Systems of the College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) of FNU will offer these courses in conjunction with extensive consultations with industry stakeholders.
Programme and Entry Requirements

Higher Education Certificate in Library and Information Systems | Pass in Year 13, with 50% or more marks in English. |
Higher Education Diploma in Library and Information Systems | Pass in Year 13, with 50% or more marks in English. |
Bachelor of Library and Information Systems (BLIS) | Pass in Year 13, with 50% or more marks in English. |
The LIS programme is also available for mature age applicants who do not meet the 13 years of continuous progression requirement but who have relevant work experience and have prior learning.
