The Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS), previously known as the School of Maritime Studies, FNU was established in 1970 by the Government of Fiji to increase the number of qualified Mariners and Seafarers in Fiji and the Pacific region. It shifted to its current location Laucala Bay in 1982. In 2007, the School included the Fisheries Programme in its curriculum and was renamed the School of Maritime and Fisheries.<\/p>\n
In January 2014, the School was re-branded to the \u201cFiji Maritime Academy\u201d.<\/p>\n
Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies has been providing Maritime Training to the Seafarers of Fiji as well as nationals from the South Pacific region. We offer courses that enable high school graduates the pathway to obtaining certification to work as navigation or engineering officers on local and international ships.<\/p>\n
Programmes offered at PCMS are approved by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF). Diploma and Certificate Level Programmes offered at PCMS are accredited by Fiji National University and are registered at Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC).<\/p>\n
The Academy has been conducting courses in compliance with Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) \u201878 code as amended in 2010.
