Greetings from PATVET

PATVET Coordinator - Dr. Isimeli Tagiciverata

Greetings from Fiji,

As we progress towards 2018, I am pleased to inform all our Pacific Island members that PATVET is an official UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre based at FNU in Narere Campus, Fiji. I am also pleased to announce that key developments and partnerships have continued to materialise in our region with institutions and private sector organisations working together to move TVET forward. A special appreciation to EU-PacTVET for the climate change adaptation and mitigation programmes in our developing island countries. We also appreciate the work of APTC for continuing to raise the standards of TVET quality and qualifications in their centres in our region. I was part of a workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 21-25 on “Revitalisation of rural communities through productivity improvement initiatives”. I wish to share some key points for emphasis and which may be adaptable and applicable to rural education and training in our South Pacific islands:

1. TVET in rural communities and villages

2. Technology training in rural communities – internet and computer skills

3. Entrepreneurship and funding

4. Rural Community project strategic planning and implementation

We shall keep you updated on other developments in our region.

Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata
PATVET Interim President,
Suva, Fiji.
