The Department offers Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Stream programmes relating directly to the mechanical trade sectors for a diverse range of firms in the private sector. The programmes play a very crucial role in the overall efficiency and productivity of any organization in the industry.

Our programmes have been in existence since the inception of this University and the former Training & Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF). In line with changing engineering technology, we have also been constantly reviewing our programmes e.g. review of welding program by Australian Business Volunteers consultant in year 2009. We must note that we are leaders in NTPC in development of Competency Based Training concepts for the Technical Trades which directly impinges on our training role in the industry.

The programmes currently offered by our department comprises of the following: Welding & Fabrication, Refrigeration & Air Condition, Mechanical Engineering Industry Skills, and AUTOCAD. In-built into NTPC trade programs is a focused emphasis on practical training and assessments so as to ensure participants are well versed with industry practical requirements.

To meet dynamics of the contemporary labor market, the Department offers evening classes and short courses to suit existing workers in industry and also for new comers to industry. Apart from regular industry consultation, we also have close contact with the Industry Standard Advisory Council (ISAC).
All the programmes are taught by staff with appropriate trade qualification as well as with relevant industrial experience. We look forward to serving the needs of the industry by providing well qualified and trained office administrators.
