2nd Symposium On Renewble Energy Technologies

RENEWABLE ENERGY: SOURCES, SUSTAINABILITY AND SECURITY

The installed capacity of electricity-generating power systems and plants, using renewable energy resources has, in recent years, increased significantly for the Pacific Island Countries (PIC's). There are various projects in the pipeline which, when completed and commissioned, will lead to a rise in the installed capacity of renewable energy-based power generation. This will result in the people in the PICs having access to electricity and can thus benefit from enjoying the many positive advantages of having a reliable electricity supply, leading to an improved economic climate and quality of life.

The people in PICs are at the frontline of the effects of climate change and are vulnerable to the volatile price of fossil fuels. Their concern for the huge rise of energy cost, the unavailability of electrical energy in many parts, particularly rural and remote areas, of PICs and the increase in energy demand makes renewable energy resources a very good option for electricity, heat and fuels to meet the energy needs. PICs are close to the equator and have good to excellent solar resources, and have at various locations, good resource for wind energy, micro-hydro power, biomass energy and geothermal energy.

This symposium will converge researchers, students, scientists, government officials, energy generating industry CEO's and senior managers, NGO's concerned with renewable energy and interested public to discuss and present issues relating to the recent developments of renewable energy systems and technologies in the PICs, assessment of renewable energy resources, sustainability of resources, use of appropriate technologies to harness the significant amounts of energy available, emerging technologies, energy efficiency and conservation, energy security in PICs and to share information amongst delegates.

There will be opportunities to engage in plenary sessions, to take part in panel discussions, to visit local energy facilities and to present papers and make poster presentations.

The College of Engineering, Science and Technology invites academics, researchers, policy analysts, NGO's, policy makers, staff of local, regional and international energy and related institutions, donors and members of the general public to submit abstracts (of not more than 300 words) of papers and/or posters to be presented. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
