Acting Head of Department The department offers TVET streams and Higher Education programmes in Applied Computing and Information Systems. The department has qualified tutorial assistants, tutors and lecturers who put in their quality time and effort to deliver the best possible syllabus to Information Systems students. The students belong to various disciplines such as Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Office Administration, and School of Tourism & Hospitality for the College of Commerce. The students are taught from other faculties and departments; Building and Civil, Applied Science, Mechanical, Education, Media, Maritime and Fisheries. The range of Higher Education programme extends from Certificate, Diploma to Bachelor of Commerce (specializing in information Systems. The Applied Computing programme is designed to deal with issues of design and analysis of all aspects of computer systems including hardware, software, operating systems and networks. It is highly popular with the computing professionals, whose work is concerned directly with computers, including applications and Systems Application programmers, systems analysts and designers, systems and database managers, university lecturers and teachers, and independent computer consultants. Professional computer users and specialist in IS , spend much of their time working with computers within their chosen professions. The need for people suitably skilled for such positions, with strong supporting studies in computing in addition to their professional discipline, has increased in recent years. Information Systems is an emerging discipline within the broader area of Information System. It is a passport to a satisfying and professionally rewarding career. Almost all jobs use some form of information systems or information technology for business processes and management, creative output or communication. The programme will deal with e-systems, multimedia technology, database management and networking which are highly relevant to the current market. Graduates will be able to operate efficiently and effectively as professionals in the IS and IT sector, and to address the business applications of technology, the management of large quantities of information and the way in which this affects modern organizations. Within the ever-changing global work place, there is huge demand for training and qualification in this area.
