Welcome to the College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies. We appreciate your interest in the College and invite you to explore our diverse range and various levels of programmes. The College has a full range of business degree programmes that are nationally accredited.
The College’s programmes are vetted by the relevant Industry Advisory Committees before being approved by the University’s Senate. Some programmes such as Accounting are accredited by the respective professional body - the Fiji Institute of Accountants. In addition, existing programmes are reviewed every five years to ensure that progress is according to plan.
We currently have programmes in two streams, the TVET Stream and the Higher Education Stream. The levels include Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor of Commerce programmes in Economics, Banking, Project Analysis and Management, Accounting, Finance, Commercial Law, Management, Marketing, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Computing Science, Information Technology, Insurance, and Productivity Analysis. We are also offering Preliminary and Foundation Commerce programmes. Our Department of Office Administration has been producing quality office administrators while our School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies has been at the forefront of efforts to ensure the workforce needs of the tourism industry are fulfilled. We are now launching postgraduate programmes in a number of commerce subject areas and have the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Taxation programmes available.
Within one year of launching degree-level programmes, we have attracted a large number of students and have also been approached by the industry to offer short units for their employees. These demands can be directly attributed to the quality of our staff and programmes, and, the flexibility in our mode, time and place of delivery.
With regard to staffing, we encourage our staff to keep in close contact with the industry. We also provide leave and salary supplementation to enable staff to be placed in the industry for up to six months in every three years. We are now putting measures in place to attract staff with PhDs and good research and publication profiles. At our Samabula Campus, we offer units in both the day and evening so that those working full time can attend class without having to take leave from work.
With respect to the vision of the University to take education closer to the community, our programmes, particularly in Accounting, Economics, Computing Science and Information Systems, Banking, Management and Finance are all offered via the other four campuses in Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Labasa.
With regard to the quality of our programmes, our philosophy is to educate students to be successful and responsible business leaders dedicated to pursuing excellence. In doing so, we focus on being a worldwide leader in business curriculum innovation. In our undergraduate programmes, we focus on teaching current best practices for solutions to business problems within the context of a rigorous conceptual framework. This approach enables us to create a seamless learning environment that builds on the excellence of our College staff in their respective academic disciplines and which also builds on the industry experience that academic staff members have in their field.
Thus, there are very good reasons why so many families prefer to send their children to FNU. We stand ready to respond to the demands from industry and the general public. We note that your career path will take many turns in new and as yet uncharted areas.
At CBHTS-FNU, we are committed to your success, whatever road you take. Therefore we do hope that you will consider the College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies of the Fiji National University as your first choice to meeting your educational needs. While we have the full College information on our website, you are welcome to arrange a face-to-face meeting with any of our staff members should you require any additional clarification.
