School of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

I warmly welcome you all to this webpage of the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

May I start by stating that the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering under the College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) is the leading provider of technical and vocational education and training in electrical and renewable energy, telecommunication, networking, computer, biomedical, control, instrumentation and electronics engineering in Fiji in this new millennium. It is also respected throughout the region because of its vast contribution in the training of most of the regions electrical and electronics personnel for over four (4) decades.

As for development, in the last decade the school had been accredited as the pioneer CISCO/CCNA local academy for IT training in the region. Preparation is already underway for the Prometric Examination for CISCO/CCNA students who had been successful with all four modules of this programme.

For your information the programmes offered by the school are designed to meet the various electrical and electronic engineering job descriptions and requirements in the work place and more significantly at the serviceman's, craftsman, technician and paraprofessional, graduate engineer levels.

I would like to state that the unit-based programmes, from certificates to degrees, are constantly reviewed to keep pace with a fast evolving technology in local workplaces and indeed the world. Thus, anyone with interests to study in this school can be assisted to design a study path that leads to the desired career or vocation as a part-time, an apprentice through sponsorship or full-time student.

Furthermore, I would like to add that the programmes in the school are internationally recognised and any student who studies at the school can also get credit transfer towards higher qualifications programmes in other training institutions like a degree in a University. The qualifications are portable.

Indeed the webpage also mentions the opportunities that the school offers to those students with academic difficulties through its self-costed and well-structured programmes. The idea is to provide all students of all descriptions and abilities but with interests the chance of their lifetime to study electrical and electronics technology through these programmes that will enhance their lives through employment.

We deliver flexible study programmes and services to meet the needs of students, industry and the community. The set of programmes contained in this page can be offered to anyone, or institute at a cost that will not compromise the quality of delivery and outcomes.

Essentially, the school offers you the choice of attainment or participation achievement to depict a kind of flexible learning environment that is accommodating in stature.

Enjoy your reading!

Advanced Diploma of Engineering (electrical & electronic engineering)

There has been a change of name in the area of speciality in this programme. It  changed from electro technology to electrical and electronic engineering to meet the degree articulation requirements of  Year 3 of Bechelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics).

Bachelor of Engineering

The Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a four year programme that is tailor- made to the needs of the industries in Fiji and the region. Over the years the School has been able to develop its Trade Diploma and Advanced Diploma programme that bridges directly to the overseas universities like AUT and USQ. The current BE Programme is built on the same foundation and is equivalent to BE programmes in the overseas universities.

Note:

1. There are also opportunities for working people who may want some personal upgrading to enhance their careers advancement.

2. Besides the normal programmes on offer, employers may request the design of special units or programmes for the general upgrading of their employees.

3. All in all in general, as an electrical or electronic serviceman, or craftsman, or technician, or technologist, or engineer in the areas mentioned above, you can participate in this on-going technological revolution by improving and perhaps refining the existing systems and by inventing and developing new systems to meet the ever-changing needs of our society.

        Hospitality Engineering

In its endeavour to be responsive and take responsibility for a desire of the hospitality industry (hotels, resorts etc.), the School, in partnership with other schools within the FNU, mounted the Trade Certificate in Hospitality Engineering.

The main purpose of this programme is to prepare students for employment at trade level engineering occupations, requiring competency skills in electrical and electronics technology, plumbing, carpentry, welding and fabrication, machining and technological supervisory roles. The general characteristics of the programme, as outlined in the programme document, specifically aims to provide a broad based, initial vocational programme for those performing trade level electrical, mechanical, carpentry and plumbing work in a range of hospitality industries.
