Welcome to the Division of Human Resources at Fiji National University (FNU). The University’s Human Resources team works in cooperation with managers and staff to support the strategic objectives of the University, to develop a healthy organizational culture and constructive staff experience. The Division of Human Resources supports the recruitment and retention of staff. We promote effective ways of retaining and attracting the best people to support the University's functions of teaching and research. HR works with academic departments and administrative sections to ensure that FNU is an employer of choice and to provide a work environment that is fulfilling and challenging.
The four (4) main departments of HR assists in improving the efficiency and effectiveness to better meet the core needs of the University. These Departments are:
Department of People Sourcing & Placement (Recruitment)
As one of Fiji’s leading Universities, the Department of People Sourcing & Placement recruits the best people for a wide range of roles every year. To achieve this and to ensure a high performance culture, Recruitment needs to attract and select the right people as new staff member represents a major investment. The recruitment cycle involves job analysis, job opening, preparation of a new job description, screening, interviewing, background check, recommendation, job offering, negotiation, contract signing, work permits, medical and police clearance. Once the candidate joins the University, the Department of People Capability takes over in terms of induction, orientation etc.
Department of People Personnel Services (Personnel)
The core function of the Department of People Personnel Services is record management. It maintains each employee's file containing details such as employee’s personal details, pay reviews, qualifications and attendance records etc. The department is also responsible for looking into staff leave, resignations, staff exits, HR Self Service, medical reviews, payroll and retention of records for all staff.
Department of People Relations (Industrial Relations)
People relations are ultimately about people and quality of life, and therefore Department of People Relations looks after the ethics in the employment relationship in the context of research, consultancies, and teaching concern the University. The Department of People Relations oversees industrial labor relations and coordinates grievance procedures, to handling complaints by interpreting and administering the contract with respect to grievances, remuneration, employee welfare, healthcare, and other contractual provisions of the University.
Department of People Capability (Training & OHS)
The Department of People Capability strives to ensure that staff are rewarded and acknowledged for their contribution to the University's research, teaching and administrative achievements which may be either through assistance in identifying development needs, induction programs, attending conferences, staff development programmes, coaching or personal counseling. The Department of People Capability also looks into the Universities health and safety. It provides organizational wide Health and Safety direction, structures and polices that support the University in developing and achieving a work environment in which safety is a core value, created by minimizing risks and injury.
