Minimum Age: 18 years.

Prerequisite Certificate: Basic Sea Safety/ MSAF Approval Letter

Required Sea Service:

(a) Not less than 12 months approved seagoing service whilst holding a Basic Sea Safety Certificate.

Course of Study

Must have satisfactorily completed an appropriate course of study.

Must hold the following current Certificates:

(a) valid Certificate of Medical Fitness for service in the deck and engine department; and
(b) GMDSS Restricted Operators Certificate.

Examination

Must have passed a written, practical and an oral examination in appropriate operational knowledge conducted by a governing body marine engineer and nautical examiner.

Minimum Age: 16 years.

Prerequisite Certificate: None.

Required Sea Service: None.

Course of Study

Must have satisfactorily completed an appropriate course of study that at least meets the standards specified in Section A-VI/I of the STCW Code’78, as amended for a seafarer’s basic safety training.

Must hold the following current Certificates;

(a) valid Certificate of Medical Fitness for service in the deck department;
(b) valid eye sight and colour test certificate;
(c) Personal Survival Techniques. Section A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code’78, as amended;
(d) Elementary First Aid. Section A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code’78, as amended;
(e) Fire Prevention and Firefighting. Section A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code’78, as amended; and
(f) Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. Section A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code’78, as amended.

Minimum Age: 18 years.

Prerequisite Certificate: Safety Certificate (Pre-Sea Training) or MSAF Approval Letter.

Required Sea Service: 6 months approved seagoing service.

Course of Study

Must have satisfactorily completed an appropriate course of study that at least meets the standards specified in Section A-II/4 of the STCW Code’78, as amended for ratings forming part of a navigational watch.

Must hold the following current Certificates:

(a) valid Certificate of Medical Fitness for service in the deck department;
(b) valid eye sight test certificate;
(c) Proficiency in Personal Survival techniques. Section A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code’78, as amended;
(d) Proficiency in Elementary First Aid at Sea. Section A-VI/I-3 of the STCW Code’78, as amended;
(e) Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Firefighting. Section A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code’78, as amended; and
(f) Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. Section AVI/1-4 of the STCW Code’78, as amended.

Examination

Must have passed a written, practical and an oral examination in appropriate operational knowledge conducted by a governing body Nautical Examiner- MSAF.

Minimum Age: 18 years.
