The University of the South Pacific (USP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Fiji National University (FNU) and a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) on 8 April 2015.

Both Universities will be working together on issues related to the design, development and delivery of educational programmes. This will be achieved on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit.

Fijian seafarers would be introduced to a new course at the Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) from next week.

The revitalisation of the FMA will take place next Monday March 9 with its grand launch and rebranding in a move that will have far reaching effects for Fijian seafarers.

Seafarers would be introduced to a new course unit in social education to prepare them for interviews, how to meet the expectations of their employers and how to get on with their life at sea.

The Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA) is on the right track to become one of the finest maritime training institutions in the region with a history-making launch planned for March 9.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, a former Fiji Navy commander will officially open the revitalised 45-year-old training institute at a ceremony planned at the Laucala Bay, Suva facility.

Close to 200 students have enrolled in its courses, with the 2015 candidates poised to find entry into marine engineering, navigation and ship building careers locally and internationally.
