SCOPE
This course covers the mandatory minimum basic safety training requirements as set out in Regulation VI/6, Para 4 & 5, Section A-VI/6, Para 6-8, Table A-VI/6-2 of the STCW 1978 as amended 2010.
The Ministry Course Approval Number is MTP/01/SS-309/2014.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Those who successfully complete this course will acquire the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency required to undertake designated security duties on board, including, but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of current security threats and patterns
  • Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices
  • Recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
  • Techniques used to circumvent security measures
  • Crowd management and control techniques
  • Security related communications
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans
  • Operation of security equipment and systems
  • Testing, calibration and at-sea maintenance of security equipment and systems
  • Inspection, control and monitoring techniques
  • Methods of physical searches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo and ship stores

PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to perform their duties on the ship.

Total Duration = 2 Days
ENTRY STANDARDS / LEARNER STATUS

  • Seafarers or other shipboard personnel who are likely to have Designated Security duties in connection with the Ship Security Plan
